This policy explains what information NavyMentor (navymentor.org) collects when you visit, why, and what choices you have. We collect as little as we can.

Information you give us

  • Newsletter: if you sign up, we store your email address so we can send the newsletter. We do not sell or rent it.
  • Contact form: your name, email address and message are emailed to the site owner so we can reply. Messages are not stored in the website’s database.
  • Feedback buttons: clicking “Was this helpful?” records an anonymous yes or no count against the article. It is not linked to you.

Information collected automatically

  • Analytics: we use Google Analytics, connected through Google’s Site Kit plugin, to understand which pages are read and how visitors find the site. Google collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and uses cookies to do so. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
  • Article view counts: the site keeps a simple anonymous count of how many times each article has been read, used to show “Most read” lists.
  • Server logs: like most websites, our hosting provider records standard log data such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, for security and troubleshooting.
  • Fonts: typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests files from Google’s servers.

Tools and checklists

Our interactive tools — checklists, the pace calculator, the study planner and others — run entirely in your browser. What you enter is saved only in your own browser’s local storage so it is there when you come back. It is never sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes it.

Some links go to Amazon. When you follow one, Amazon may set cookies on its own site to record that you arrived from NavyMentor. We do not receive any personal information about you from Amazon — only anonymous totals of items ordered. See our affiliate disclosure.

Cookies

Details of the cookies and browser storage used on this site are in our cookie policy.

How long we keep information

  • Newsletter email addresses are kept until you ask to be removed.
  • Contact messages are kept in our email for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry.
  • Analytics data is retained according to our Google Analytics settings.

Your choices and rights

  • You can ask us to remove your email address from the newsletter list, or to tell you what information we hold about you, using the contact form.
  • You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s opt-out add-on.
  • Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal information. Contact us and we will respond.

Children

This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
