Disney Military Tickets: How the Armed Forces Salute Works (2026)
How Disney military tickets work in 2026: who qualifies, the six-ticket limit, blocked-out dates, park reservations, where to buy, and the other discounted tickets if you are not eligible.

In this guide
Disney’s military ticket deal, long known as the Armed Forces Salute, lets eligible service members and their spouses buy up to six discounted Walt Disney World tickets a year. The 2026 tickets are valid until 18 December 2026, with two blocked-out periods. You need a military ID to buy them and to use them.
It is one of the best-known military discounts there is, and one of the most misunderstood. The rules on who can buy, who can use the tickets and when they work trip people up every year, often at the park gate.
This guide explains how the offer works, who qualifies, the dates you cannot use it, where to buy and how to avoid the common mistakes. The details come from Shades of Green, the Armed Forces Recreation Center at Walt Disney World. 🎢
What is the Armed Forces Salute?
For many years Disney has offered deeply discounted theme park tickets to the U.S. military. Most people still call it the Armed Forces Salute or the Military Salute.
Shades of Green, the military resort at Walt Disney World, now lists it under the name Military Promotional Ticket. It is the same idea: special multi-day tickets for eligible military members, with their own rules.
For 2026 there are two kinds of promotional ticket:
- The “Salute” ticket. A multi-day ticket for a set number of days.
- The “Disney Celebrates America” ticket. An unlimited-use ticket for the 2026 offer period. Shades of Green is clear that it is not an annual pass, and it does not include parking or annual pass perks.
Both count toward the same limit, and both follow the same blocked-out dates.
The promotional ticket is the cheapest way in, but it has the most rules. Ordinary military-discount tickets cost a bit more and are far more flexible.
Who can buy the promotional tickets?
Shades of Green lists who qualifies:
- Active members of the U.S. military
- Retired members
- 100% disabled members, with the right ID
- Spouses of any of the above
A valid Uniformed Services ID card is required. This is the rule that catches most people out.
| Your situation | Promotional tickets? | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Active duty, with a military ID | Yes | Up to six tickets a year |
| Retired, with a military ID | Yes | Up to six tickets a year |
| Spouse with a current ID | Yes | The spouse buys in place of the member, not as well as |
| 100% disabled veteran with a DAVPRM military ID | Yes | The ID must be the one issued through DEERS |
| Surviving spouse with benefits | Yes | Shades of Green treats the surviving spouse as the sponsor |
| Veteran with a VA health card only | No | Disney does not accept the VA card for these tickets |
| Disabled veteran rated below 100% | No | Other discounted tickets may be available |
| Veteran with a DD-214 only | No | Other discounted tickets may be available at certain times |
| Child dependent | No | Children can use a ticket bought by the sponsor or spouse |
Source: Shades of Green, “Ticketing Questions”. The terms of the promotional tickets are set by Disney.
Shades of Green states that Disney will not accept a Veteran Health Identification Card, benefits paperwork or any other form of ID for the promotional tickets. It has to be a Uniformed Services ID. Check which card you hold before you plan around this offer. Our guide to the Veteran ID Card explains the different kinds.
How many tickets, and who can use them?
The limit is six promotional tickets per service member or spouse, per promotional year. Three rules sit behind that number.
- It is six in total. The “Salute” and “Celebrates America” tickets share one limit. You could buy three of each, but not six of each.
- Member or spouse, not both. A married couple gets six tickets between them, not twelve.
- One ticket is for you. One of the six must be used by the service member or their spouse. The other five can be used by family or friends.
The rule at the gate
The first time the tickets are used, the service member or spouse has to enter the park with the group and show their military ID. That first entry is what validates the tickets.
After that, Shades of Green says your guests can enter on later days without you.
The promotional tickets will not work if neither you nor your spouse is there on the first day. Shades of Green suggests its ordinary discounted tickets for that situation. They cost more, but they do not need you at the gate.
Families of more than six
If you have more than four children aged 3 to 17, as well as yourself and your spouse, Shades of Green asks you to contact its ticket office about extra tickets.
The 2026 dates

The blocked-out periods cover the spring holidays and Thanksgiving week. They are the busiest times of the year. The Christmas and New Year rush falls after the tickets expire.
The details in this guide are for 2026. Disney sets a new offer each year, and the dates, blocked-out periods and prices change. Check with your base ticket office or Shades of Green before you book flights.
Park reservations: do not skip this step
A promotional ticket on its own does not get you in. Shades of Green says Walt Disney World requires a theme park reservation for these tickets, for everyone aged three and up.
- Check availability for your dates on Disney’s park availability calendar.
- Buy your tickets.
- Create a My Disney Experience account and add everyone in your party.
- Link each ticket to the person who will use it.
- Book a park reservation for each day.
Shades of Green notes that it is rare for reservations to be completely unavailable, because the promotional tickets are already blocked out on the busiest days. If your first choice of park is full, you can reserve a different one and move between parks later in the day with a Park Hopper ticket.
What the tickets include
| Option | What you get |
|---|---|
| Park Hopper | Entry to Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom, with the ability to visit more than one park in a day, subject to space |
| Plus option | A set number of visits to other Disney attractions, such as the two water parks or a round of miniature golf. A four-day ticket gives four visits |
The Plus visits follow the same blocked-out dates as the park days.
Where to buy
| Where | Good for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Your base ticket office | Buying before you travel | On Navy bases this is usually the Tickets and Travel office run by MWR |
| Shades of Green | Ordering online in advance, or buying at the resort | You do not have to be staying there. Tickets are tax-free and sent by email |
Buying through Shades of Green
- Order with the online request form. A ticket agent then contacts you to confirm and take payment. Orders are not started over the phone.
- Do not order too early. The resort advises ordering no more than three months before your trip. A few weeks ahead is usually fine.
- No refunds or exchanges. Be sure of your dates first.
- The sponsor or spouse must pay. Friends and relatives cannot pay directly.
- Tickets arrive activated. You do not need to stop at guest services before heading to the gate.
Not eligible? Other discounted tickets
The promotional ticket is not the only option. Shades of Green also sells ordinary Disney tickets at a military discount.
| Promotional ticket | Ordinary discounted ticket | |
|---|---|---|
| Saving | The largest | About 10% on one and two-day tickets, about 20% on three days or more, and tax-free |
| Blocked-out dates | Yes | No. They can be used when the promotional tickets cannot |
| Park reservation needed | Yes | No, because the tickets are for set dates |
| Member must be at the gate | Yes, on first use | No |
| Limit | Six a year | Not limited in the same way |
| Who can buy | Active, retired and 100% disabled members, and spouses | A wider group, including some veterans and Defense civilians |
Shades of Green says veterans with a Veteran Health Identification Card showing a service-connected disability, Purple Heart or former prisoner-of-war status can buy its ordinary discounted tickets. Veterans using only a DD-214 can buy them in person in January or September.
Shades of Green: the military resort at Disney
Shades of Green is an Armed Forces Recreation Center on Walt Disney World property. It is run for the Department of Defense as a morale and recreation facility, not by Disney.
- Who can stay: active duty, Reserve and Guard members, retirees, their families, Defense civilians and some veterans. Check the resort’s eligibility page for your category.
- Early entry: guests can enter any Walt Disney World theme park 30 minutes early, every day.
- A ticket office on site, open daily.
- Tax-free tickets, whether or not you stay there.
It books up early for school holidays. If you want to stay there, plan well ahead.
Real-life situations
1. A sailor wants to take parents and siblings
That works. Buy up to six promotional tickets, use one yourself, and enter with everyone on the first day with your ID.
2. You are deployed and want to send your family
Your spouse can buy and use the tickets with their own military ID. If your spouse is not going either, buy ordinary discounted tickets.
3. You are a veteran with a VA card
The promotional tickets are not available to you, but Shades of Green’s ordinary discounted tickets may be. Check its eligibility rules for your card.
4. You want to go at Thanksgiving
The promotional tickets are blocked out from 22 to 28 November 2026. Use ordinary discounted tickets, or move your dates.
5. You are on leave after a deployment
Book early, make park reservations as soon as you have tickets, and leave a rest day in the plan. Our gift guide for sailors has ideas if the trip is a surprise.

Pro tips for the trip
- Go midweek, outside school holidays. Queues are shorter and rooms are cheaper.
- Arrive before opening. The first two hours are the quietest of the day.
- Carry your military ID every day, not only the first.
- Take a break at midday. Florida heat wears children out fast.
- Bring ponchos and a spare battery. Afternoon storms are common and the Disney app drains a phone.
- Ask about military discounts on rooms too. Disney’s own hotels may have a separate military rate.
- Use your base ticket office for other Orlando parks as well.
